Reading helps to lose weight - it is proved by scientists!

A well-chosen reading will help teenagers who are obese, lose weight. This is reported by the results of a study conducted by scientists from the Children's Hospital of Duke (North Carolina, USA).

Experts asked a group of girls, aged 10 to 14 years, who are obese and already participate in the weight burning program, to read one of a series of novels about adolescents, which was written by Annie Bryant. With the help of pediatric experts, role models were introduced into the text that was positive from the point of view of a healthy lifestyle, and children also listened to advice on weight management.

Half a year later, scientists learned that 30 girls who read the novel showed a significant decrease in the body mass index (-0.70%), while 15 girls from the control group showed an increase in the index by 0.5%.

One of the doctors commented: "As a pediatrician, I can not count how many times I advised parents to buy books from which they can learn good advice, but so far could not carry out a study that would vividly confirm the recommendations."

Obesity is beginning to be an increasingly common disease in children, according to the US authorities, 15% of children aged 7 to 20 years are overweight or obese and compared to 1990, this number triples. Scientists searched for different ways to help children stay healthy, lose weight and be more active, but, according to Armstrong, most of them did not work very well.
