Pros and cons of Chewing Gum

According to the advertisement, chewing gum can and should be chewed every time after eating. But what does this lead to, and is there any benefit from the "chewing gum"? Let's see if a chewing gum really helps to fight tooth decay, cleans the enamel of the teeth and strengthens the gums.

According to dentists who advertise different "chewing gum", after eating, you need to chew gum, as it prevents the development of caries. Perhaps this is so because chewing gum in the mouth leads to active salivation. This process facilitates the removal of food residues from the cavity, which can lead to caries. But the chewing gum can not clean out the inaccessible places, especially when caries are present, the chewing gum falls into these places and further destroys the tooth.

Chewing gum is an excellent tool for teeth whitening. "Thanks to" advertising, a person chews gum all the time. He chews it after coffee, wine, tea, cigarettes and thinks that "chewing gum" removes the yellow coating on the teeth. But in reality, the plaque can be removed only with a conventional toothbrush, since, in fact, a soft chewing gum cannot overcome a hard plaque. But the elastic band, which has special granules in its composition, may cope with its task. And still, it is best to brush your teeth after eating toothpaste.

Chewing gum strengthens the enamel of the teeth and gums. Experts believe that chewing gum helps strengthen the lower jaw. And since we often eat non-solid food, the muscles of our jaw, which must constantly train, weaken. In this case, chewing gum helps them, activating the muscles. However, a good alternative to chewing gum to maintain a tonus can serve foods that are more useful than "chewing gum", such as an apple, for example, or carrots.

Chewing gum can also bring irreparable damage to the body. According to doctors, in no case should you chew gum before the morning meal or, in general, chew it all day and night. Do not do this because when chewing in the body begins to stand out the gastric juice. In the absence of food in the stomach, this juice is eaten away by its mucous membrane. This process causes a person gastritis and ulcer, which can subsequently lead to cancer. Such patients should refrain from using chewing gum.

Therefore, if after a meal you did not have an opportunity to brush your teeth, you can use a chewing gum. But you can chew it only after eating and for only 5-10 minutes, no more. As prevention, it is strongly recommended that you visit the dental clinic at least twice a year. Such actions will be much more effective than using conventional chewing gum.
