After submitting your application form for new aadhaar card with all the required documents and going through finger prints and Iris scanning, one has to wait for approx. 3 months to get aadhaar card. That's the official time frame given by UIDAI. It may take longer depending upon various reasons.
In the mean time, one can check aadhaar card status online.
When you went for aadhaar card registration, you must have got aadhaar enrollment slip. Keep that slip handy now.
Now, visit the official website of UIDAI at http://resident.uidai.net.in/check-aadhaar-status
The screen is something like this:
Now, enter your enrollment number, date and time of enrollment as mentioned in your enrollment slip.
The top of your acknowledgement slip contains 14 digit enrolment number and the 14 digit date and time of enrolment. These 28 digits together form your temporary enrolment ID (EID).
Enter the 14 digit enrolment number and the enrolment date and time in the boxes shown above.
Next, enter the security code as shown in your screen and click on "Check Status" button.
If all your required documents, finger-prints etc. have been accepted by the system, you'll get message like "Congratulations! Your Aadhaar has been generated and the Aadhaar letter will be delivered shortly"

Aadhaar Card will soon be powered by Virtual ID wherein you don't have to reveal your aadhaar card to bank or any other organization. Instead, you'll get the option to create temporary virtual id which will be linked with your aadhaar card and you just need to submit that virtual id. This will make your aadhaar data safe.
